Dr. Prof. Arjo Klamer

The research group Creative Industries & Social Innovation is headed by Prof. Dr. Arjo Klamer. Klamer is a professor in the Economics of Art and Culture at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Klamer does often contribute to opinion pages of newspapers and magazines, and is actively participating in public debates.

Bertan Selim is currently Head of Grants and Collaborations as the Prince Claus Fund in Amsterdam. In 2012 together with Arjo Klamer, he helped set up the Research Group at the Fontys Academy for Creative Industries in Tilburg which focuses on supporting research on the Dutch creative industries and social innovation.

In the past Bertan has worked extensively with organisational strategy development, cultural policy, fundraising, financial sustainability and project cycle management. He was a consultant in strategic management within the cultural sectors in the UK and Netherlands. He has also worked at the Virtueel Platform, as Regional Programme Manager at the Zurich-based Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia, and as Policy Officer at the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam.

He has published numerous articles in books, magazines and journals on issues related to cultural mobility, funding for the arts, creativity in education and the creative industries.

Bertan is currently pursuing a PhD in Cultural Economics under the guidance of Professor Arjo Klamer at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. His research is focused on the economic value of digital technologies use within arts organisations in the Netherlands. 

Marlin de Bresser – lecturer Fontys ACI

Marlin de Bresser studied Human Resource Management at Tilburg University. She did a Master program in Comparative Labour and Organisation Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Whilst working on several (inter)national jobs related to the field of Human Resource Management she also came to work for a couple of technology start-ups and got stricken by the power of innovative ideas. She became interested in the area of leadership, innovation and innovation management and soon started researching and teaching in this area. Questions she is interested in: what is the role of the leader in innovation processes? And what about innovation can be organized? And what should be left as free, open and untouched as possible?

Chris Gribling – Expert in Creativity and Creativity in Education

Chris Gribling teaches Creativity & Concepting at Fontys ACI. In 2013 Gribling completed his master education of arts, which focused on the meaning of creativity for education. The best thing about teaching? ‘Challenging and stimulating students to get them out of their comfort zone and broaden their horizon.’

Griblings passion for creativity stems from the fact that he likes to connect people. “From 2001 until 2013 I worked with an Art Company – the Tilburg Cowboys – I became more involved with creativity and the associative side. So even though I’m not a creator, I can create concepts.” In his master, Gribling researched the importance of creativity within Fontys Academy for Creative Industries. In this case, creativity means producing original and applicable ideas. And that’s exactly what he teaches his students, so that they are able to develop and implement novel and appropriate ideas. Chris Gribling likes to teach and speak in an international context.

John Verhoeven – lecturer Fontys ACI

John Verhoeven studied Management Science at the Radboud University of Nijmegen. He currently lectures Music Marketing, Branding and Business model innovation at the ‘International Event, Music and Entertainment Studies’-department of the Fontys Academy for Creative Industries. He is also a recording and live performing artist and is chairman of a newly founded pop stage in his hometown called Podium De Noordkade. John‘s research is about the fast changing music industry and the effect of these changes on the value of music. He not only states that the production, distribution and consumption of (popular) music have changed, but also the manner how music is appreciated, valued and monetized. This calls for new research in order to shape the future of an industry that desperately is looking for answers. John, as a musician himself, likes to use the artist perspective in order to get deeper insight into the effects of the digital revolution on artists and their music.

Paul Schreuder – lecturer Fontys ACI

Paul Schreuder has worked for several (business)event companies in the Netherlands for over 10 years. Currently Paul is working as a lecturer Events at Dutch Fontys University for Applied Sciences – Fontys Academy for Creative Industries. Besides carrying responsibility to set up an academical program to educate his students about Events-industry at all levels of the bachelor programs, Paul is also a member of the research group Creative Industries & Social Innovation. Main topics of his personal research are: events, live-communication, experiences, value creation, event technology.

Wendalin van de Giessen
Wendalin van de Giessen is an (Academic) professional in persuasive communication & consumer behaviour, especially from a cross-cultural perspective. Currently conducting research on the field of persuasive communication & games, giving lectures on Game (design), co-coordinating the “Branche Gaming” at Fontys Academy for Creative Industries (studies: Commercial Economics & Communication) and guiding students in their (applied) research at companies.

The combination of my degree in Japanese Language and Culture (focus on Japanese games) with my research master degree in Persuasive Communication explains my personal interest/passion and knowledge in/about the different ways different cultures can be influences by advertising/marketing messages. Since one and the same persuasive message can have a different effect on different cultures, I find it interesting to address the same question regarding a game containing a persuasive message (aka a Persuasive game/ Serious game).
